So, it's been about a month since my last post. Oops? And I keep writing out these long things in Word, then never finishing them or posting them.
I'd like to share with you one of my favourite people ever, the amazingly talented Kaki King.
I can easily say that Kaki is the most talented person I have ever seen. The things she can do on a guitar are just completely mindfucking. I've been a fan of hers for several years now, after discovering her through a friend and fellow Tegan and Sara fan who insisted I check her out. I fell immediately in love with every aspect of her. I watched this video more times than is probably healthy:
Like, seriously, is that even human? Now go watch it like, 5 more times like a normal person.
Finally, after several years of YouTube and MySpace stalking, I got to see Kaki LIVE last week! I made my friend schlep up to Northampton, MA (cute little town, wish we had more time there!) for the show and it was completely worth the four hours in the car (although, I really can't say because I wasn't the one driving). If you think that video was amazing, imagine being able to see that live. There is simply no way to describe it. I cried when she came ons
tage, no lies. She played a great set, and even came out to dance with the audience. Pretty. Fucking. Awesome.
Also worth mentioning is the band who opened for her, Australian duo An Horse. The same friend who introduced me to Kaki also recommended I check out An Horse, but I had only heard a few of their songs. (I even have a cover Kaki did of their song Camp Out, although for some reason it's called Gloves Off on my iTunes, so I never made the connection?) An Horse was awesome awesome awesome, and in addition to buying Kaki's newly released CD Junior, I also picked up An Horse's Rearrange Beds, which I recommend you do as well.
All three of them (Kaki, and Kate Cooper and Damon Cox of An Horse) were super nice after the show and hung around to sign things and talk to people. It was a great venue for that.
Please please please do yourself a favour and check out Kaki King and An Horse.
PS Can I just say, I don't think I've ever seen so many cute girls with short haircuts in one room. I met this guy on the line for the bathroom who was here with his wife and I was like wait, what?
