NaNoWriMo

It kind of sounds like a dinosaur (and don't ask why. It just does, okay?). It kind of sounds made up. IT ALSO KIND OF SOUNDS AWESOME.

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, aka, November! Now! RIGHT NOW!

During NaNoWriMo, participants aim to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I will calculate that for you: that's 1,667 words per day. Sometimes there are wonderful encouraging words, you can meet other writers in your area, you can accomplish your dream of writing a novel "one day" this month!

So what are you waiting for? Go write!

Um...hi!

Kaki. Fucking. King.

So, it's been about a month since my last post. Oops? And I keep writing out these long things in Word, then never finishing them or posting them.

I'd like to share with you one of my favourite people ever, the amazingly talented Kaki King.

I can easily say that Kaki is the most talented person I have ever seen. The things she can do on a guitar are just completely mindfucking. I've been a fan of hers for several years now, after discovering her through a friend and fellow Tegan and Sara fan who insisted I check her out. I fell immediately in love with every aspect of her. I watched this video more times than is probably healthy:

Like, seriously, is that even human? Now go watch it like, 5 more times like a normal person.

Finally, after several years of YouTube and MySpace stalking, I got to see Kaki LIVE last week! I made my friend schlep up to Northampton, MA (cute little town, wish we had more time there!) for the show and it was completely worth the four hours in the car (although, I really can't say because I wasn't the one driving). If you think that video was amazing, imagine being able to see that live. There is simply no way to describe it. I cried when she came ons
tage, no lies. She played a great set, and even came out to dance with the audience. Pretty. Fucking. Awesome.

Also worth mentioning is the band who opened for her, Australian duo An Horse. The same friend who introduced me to Kaki also recommended I check out An Horse, but I had only heard a few of their songs. (I even have a cover Kaki did of their song Camp Out, although for some reason it's called Gloves Off on my iTunes, so I never made the connection?) An Horse was awesome awesome awesome, and in addition to buying Kaki's newly released CD Junior, I also picked up An Horse's Rearrange Beds, which I recommend you do as well.

All three of them (Kaki, and Kate Cooper and Damon Cox of An Horse) were super nice after the show and hung around to sign things and talk to people. It was a great venue for that.

Please please please do yourself a favour and check out Kaki King and An Horse.

PS Can I just say, I don't think I've ever seen so many cute girls with short haircuts in one room. I met this guy on the line for the bathroom who was here with his wife and I was like wait, what?

Cracked

I’m cracking. I hate confrontation. I was just listening to music quietly, and my roommate asked me to put on headphones as she frequently asks me to. I turned the music off, but then I asked “Don’t you usually listen to music when you work too? And I never say anything.” She just sort of shrugged. And then I said “And you are always on the phone. I’m not going to ask you not to talk on the phone, but I feel like I’m always shutting things off when you ask if you are working, and you are always on the phone when I am working.” I go to the library a lot to do work because of this, rather than confronting the situation, but she is always doing work in here. Doing work, or on the phone. I don’t want to cause issues because our living situation is pretty good together, especially compared to last semester, but sometimes I just crack.

Script Frenzy 2010

For a few years now, I have signed up for National Novel Writing Month (or, NaNoWriMo as it is referred to) but I've sort of slacked off. A few weeks ago, I got an email invite to Script Frenzy, which is a similar "event" taking place during the month of April. I've dabbled into screenwriting, and maybe next month will give me a push to dabble further! I'm really excited to participate. I'm still trying to come up with some more movie ideas, so if you have anything you've ever wanted to see on screen, let me know! Who knows what could happen with it!

So accomplished

Today I:

Went running in the snow
Ate breakfast in the dining hall for the second time this year
Watched The L Word season 2 opening credits (Pretty sure it was 2 because Jenny's boobs were still there?)
Watched my LARA and Dana kiss
Watched Dana be a beast and tennis and um...alive
Watched lots of other L Word, Will and Grace, Ellen, Buffy, The OC and other gay TV goodness, including ELIZABETH MITCHELL on ER!
Saw BOTH Marissa/Alex kisses
Saw a glimpse of Alan Cumming

...all before 10 AM.
Life is good right now.

Dashboard Confessional must write lyrics while inside my head...

For You to Notice, Dashboard Confessional

I'm starting to fashion an idea in my head
where I would impress you
with every single word I said.
Would come out insightful, or brave, or smooth, or charming
and you'd want to call me..
And I would be there every time
you'd need me
I'd be there every time...

But for now I'll look so longingly
waiting...
For you to want me, for you to need me, for you to notice me

I'm starting to fashion an idea in my head
where I would impress you
with every single word I said.
Would come out insightful, or brave, or smooth, or charming
and you'd want to call me..
And I would be there every time
you'd need me
I'd be there every time...

But for now I'll look so longingly
waiting...
For you to want me, for you to need me, for you to notice me

Grand plans?

So I had this idea of resetting my iTunes play count on the first of the year, and seeing what I listen to most for the first month of 2010. I made these pretty little pictures to share my playlist with you, but unfortunately, it has taken more time than planned.

But fret not, little internet people! It is coming! It is coming! It is coming! ...soon.
